Service Description
"There’s a great spring in you all bud and blossom and March laughter I’ve always loved…” -David Whyte As Spring approaches and days get longer, let us embrace the sunshine and capture the beauty of rebirth. Join teaching artist Robin Wolfenden in an expansive Cyanotype workshop using the brilliance of the sun for exposure. Cyanotype can be used to make artwork ranging from the photographic to the abstract, from the traditional to the conceptual. Cyanotype papers will be prepared for you to begin making numerous experimental prints. You will then have the opportunity to prepare your own papers in our darkroom. From the way you brush on the emulsion to how you wash the print, there are a multitude of intricacies that will make each print your own. We will start with the simplicity of the Classic Cyanotype, exploring light and dark with contrasts of silhouettes. The magic continues with adding color and texture before and after coating the paper, layering for double exposure, and using natural additives such as rose petal water, turmeric, and soap bubbles to create free-flowing “wet” Cyanotypes. Prepare to dress for the weather, as we will be moving from indoors to outdoors in the sun to process our prints. Students are encouraged to bring spring flowers and foliage or any personal item that will cast a shadow, including photo negatives printed on acetate. Skill Level: any Pre-requisites: none Materials: We will provide all prepared papers and fabrics for students to use, plus emulsion for them to prepare their own papers. Students are encouraged to bring Spring flowers and foliage, or any personal item that will cast a shadow, including photo negatives printed on acetate. *** Fee: $100 (Members 15% discount with coupon code at checkout) If the class is full but you would like to be added to the waitlist, please email registration@artandsoulnashville.com.
