Service Description

It’s 2025 and we can make old things new! Bring your torn clothes, tattered quilts, moth-eaten curtains, or any other textiles that need to be mended—even something intact that might need some freshening up with your uniquely sewn signature! Through simple stitches, you’ll express yourself in a way that embraces the previous history of the garment, while adding your own style and whimsy. Whether you have advanced skills or have never sewn before, there’s a place for you in this class. We will cover some basic mending, specific stitches, and fabric attachment techniques. These methods will strengthen your garment through construction, along with creating a final decorative element. Whether you’re inspired by history, fashion, or sustainability, you will love the time spent in the studio, focused on the meditative act of hand-stitching. Lexie Millikan is a visiting artist from Paducah, Kentucky, who has taught natural dying techniques and textile arts at Art & Soul over the past 7+ years. See her bio and website for more info on this fabulous artist, facilitator, and friend of the studio.
